The Conflict Memory Education Centre (CMEC) is dedicated to exploring the historical narratives of conflicts spanning from 1914 to the present day. Through various documentary forms such as film, photography, audio recordings, and digital media, the Centre endeavours to capture and convey the stark realities of global conflicts.
CMEC amplifies the voices of those directly impacted by conflict – civilians caught in the crossfire, soldiers grappling with the harsh realities of war, and communities striving to rebuild following the devastation of conflict. By sharing these stories, CMEC aims to offer a comprehensive portrayal of conflicts, highlighting the human face behind the headlines.
At its core is the My Conflict, Your Conflict, Our Conflict project, a deeply personal exploration of the Coster family’s extensive military history. Since 1914, over 25 members of the Coster family have served in the military, providing a unique lens through which to examine the lasting impact of conflict on families. This project also extends beyond the Coster family, launching a new media campaign to invite members of the public to contribute their own family histories of military service. By creating a shared archive of personal narratives, the project emphasizes the universal connections between individual stories and broader historical events, making the human cost of conflict more tangible.
